Motherhood is a Calling

"Motherhood is not a hobby, it is a calling. It is not something to do if you can squeeze the time in. It is what God gave you time for." - Rachel Jankovic

The moment you become pregnant your entire life changes. You begin to change. Your thoughts begin to change. Your interests change, your values change (or strengthen). You begin to think for your child instead of for yourself. The things that you used to do for fun are no longer fun. You begin to think of how things you used to find appealing will affect your child. You begin to think, "I won't have time to do anything for myself" or "I won't be able to do anything fun".  But then you realize that the duties and responsibilities of being a mother are inevitable. Once your child is born, and you look into those innocent eyes, you realize that what you once thought of as a chore is actually a joy. What you once thought of as an incredible inconvenience is actually the what makes your world go around. Whether you believe or not you were put on this earth to serve a purpose. If you have children they are your purpose. God designed us to carry them, to birth them, and to raise them. Our duty is to put them on the path to righteousness and to help them to find their places in this world of chaos. Even if you aren't religious please know that your children depend on you to treat them well and to provide for them. They look to you for encouragement and approval to make it in this world. They are the future.
